TORRANCE, CA—July 18, 2011– Sharing an outdoor lifestyle is healthy for any couple but when that couple win international awards, who takes the credit?
In the case of Joseph Chiang and Glenda Higgins-Chiang, the accolades are shared. It takes two people working for many days to complete a panorama worthy of the EPSON Pano silver award, which recognizes the top ten percent from a field of thousands of entries representing 62 countries.
The Pano awards were established to recognize the special skill and unique vision required to create panoramic images. New software, camera technology, and processing techniques allow artists like the Chiangs to deliver unprecedented scale and detail.
“Joe gets so focused on the camera he would literally walk into traffic if I wasn’t there,” said Glenda. Because panoramas are pieced together like a puzzle, they require an incredible amount of planning, visualization, and post-processing as a team.
Glenda’s art direction helps Joseph to create visually harmonized compositions and often edits on the fly to avoid unpredictable mishaps, like a passing bus or individual that can ruin the shot.
“We continuously challenge each other to improve our vision and our execution,” said Joseph. The couple say that creating art together is a fulfilling experience that enhances their marriage. Both photographers are avid hikers and Joseph is also an experienced big wall climber.
Glenda and Joseph have lived in the South Bay for more than twenty years. Some of their favorite local places to photograph include Palos Verdes Peninsula and southern California beaches. As long-time members of “Friends of Madrona Marsh” a non-profit organization, Glenda and Joseph have donated their time and their work to the preservation of The Madrona Marsh. They have three children who also enjoy the love of the outdoors and they share many wonderful memories from their adventures. They also enjoy taking their chocolate Portuguese water dog, Bella on family outings and walks at the local dog friendly beaches.
Through their company Musings Photography, Glenda and Joseph Chiang provide beautiful landscape and cityscape photography to hotels, health clubs, offices, and homes. A theme of some of their most recent work shot in the South Bay is the juxtaposition between urban and wild elements in the Los Angeles area.
